Nepal Traffic Police Enhances License Acceptance via Nagarik App 2023

In a social media post on Monday, the Nagarik App informed that this service will be implemented across the country. Along with this, if you drive without violating the traffic rules, the driver’s license shown through the Nagarik app during the check will be valid.

We would like to inform you that the system of recognizing the driver’s license shown through the Nagarik app during the check when the Nepalese citizens drive without violating the traffic rules has been implemented nationwide,” the post of the Nagarik app.

Questions were frequently raised about why the digital license shown by the Nagarik app, which was launched by the government with the aim of covering all government services in one place, is not valid. According to Section 131 of the Vehicle and Traffic Management Act 2049, traffic inspectors or the Nepal Police have to show a driver’s driving license or vehicle registration book in the course of investigation, so the traffic police argued that the physical license should be shown. Now, with the coordination between the Nagarik app and the traffic police, drivers will be able to show their license from their mobile phones.
